Do Newspaper Endorsements Matter?
The Arizona Republic has endorsed Sen. John McCain for president. No surprise there considering that Senator McCain is the biggest political thing out of Arizona since his predecessor, Barry Goldwater (whose grandkids endorsed Sen. Barack Obama for president — see below)
But wait, there’s more. The biggest paper in Alaska, Governor Sarah Palin’s domain, supports…Senator Barack Obama. Here is the most telling statement:
Sen. Barack Obama, the Democratic nominee, brings far more promise to the office. In a time of grave economic crisis, he displays thoughtful analysis, enlists wise counsel and operates with a cool, steady hand. The same cannot be said of Sen. McCain.
I bet you (and maybe Governor Palin) are thinking “where’s the love from my fellow Alaskans? I get more love from Joe the plumber!”. The Daily News countered with this:
Yet despite her formidable gifts, few who have worked closely with the governor would argue she is truly ready to assume command of the most important, powerful nation on earth.
